An Unlikely Collaboration: PUMA x Jaipur Rugs
What happens when traditional Indian craftsmanship meets contemporary streetwear?
PUMA’s collaboration with Jaipur Rugs brings together two seemingly different worlds; handcrafted artistry and global sports culture, in a way that feels unexpected, yet surprisingly natural.

Founded in 1978 by N.K. Chaudhary, Jaipur Rugs works with designers and artisans across India to create beautifully handcrafted rugs, preserving traditional skills while bringing them into contemporary spaces.
PUMA, meanwhile, is a global sportswear brand equally recognised for the influence it has had on streetwear and popular culture.
On paper, they make an unlikely pairing. But perhaps that’s exactly what makes the collaboration so interesting.

Beyond the product
What caught my attention wasn’t simply the collaboration itself, but the way the launch was brought to life.
For the Suede Sounds event, guests were invited to a secret location in Mumbai for an immersive listening and creative experience centred around PUMA’s iconic Suede shoe.
Rather than simply displaying the collection, the space allowed people to experience the two brands through craft, texture, scent and sound.
Hand-knotted rugs inspired by the Suede shoe were hung across the walls and layered across the floor, transforming the venue into a tactile environment. A specially selected fragrance filled the space, while music from Lifafa created a distinctive soundtrack for the evening.
Guests were also invited to get hands-on, creating their own pieces and turning them into personalised keepsakes.

Why it works
This is the part of the collaboration I find most interesting.
It wasn’t simply a case of applying Indian craft to a global sportswear product. The experience gave people an opportunity to feel the connection between the two brands.
The rugs brought craftsmanship and texture. The Suede brought street culture and familiarity. Music, scent and participation then turned those ideas into something people could physically experience.

And so, perhaps that’s where the real opportunity lies for brands exploring culture and craft.
It’s not just about givng people something new to buy, it’s about giving them new ways to experience something they already love.
PUMA and Jaipur Rugs brought two very different creative worlds together and in doing so, gave their audiences another reason to connect with both.
